Who is Melissa K Blair?

Melissa K Blair is a communications strategist dedicated to helping organizations, communities and individuals achieve social change. She has developed a deep ingrained passion for the merging of behavioural science with insight-informed communications strategies to ultimately create societal impact. 

Melissa has a wide range of social marketing, health communication, facilitation, event production and strategy development experience. Growing up a farm girl in small-town Ontario, Canada ensued a work ethic and core set of values that she carries into everything she does. When Melissa realized a passion for using business, strategy and marketing to create a positive impact, it solidified a career path in creating social change.

Having lived and worked in four major cities on three different continents across the world,  Melissa has a varied background of leading the creation and execution of print, television, online and direct advertising, as well as campaign launch and event management initiatives. Prior to becoming Co-Founder of the startup, SportsHosts, Melissa was a consultant with The Reputation Group, based in Melbourne, Australia. She has also worked at Manifest Communications and Stephen Thomas Ltd in Toronto, Canada, where she managed the strategic and creative development of projects for a range of clients. 
Melissa has an Honours Bachelors Degree in Community Health Sciences and Business from Brock University in St. Catharines, Canada and a Masters of Arts Degree in Health and Social Marketing from Middlesex University in London, UK. She currently a seasoned lecturer at Brock University’s Faculty of Health Sciences Department where she helped to develop Brock’s first-ever online Masters of Public Health (MPH) and designed the course module  “Social Marketing and Health Communication." Melissa has delivered this course for the past four years within the MPH program and it has now been included as an optional course within the MBA program. She also in the chapter author for the textbook Social Marketing and Public Health 2nd Edition | Theory and Practice: Using digital and social media platforms for social marketing.

In 2017 Melissa was shortlisted in B&T’s 30 Under 30 Award Marketer Category and in 2018, Melissa was shortlisted in B&T’s 30 Under 30 Award Entrepreneur Category. 

Melissa has been a keynote speaker at the various events including the World Social Marketing Conference and Leading Social Change Conference and numerous public-health forums. She worked to create and deliver a professional development workshop series in social marketing called ‘Beyond Awareness’ which provided hands-on training for industry professionals and co-led ‘Young Non-profit Professionals’ networking group.
